You may notice new street lamps going up in the Borough. The local utility is replacing a percentage of the existing old style “cobra head” street lamps with new energy efficient light fixtures. The old lamps used mercury vapor light bulbs, while the new fixtures use a compact fluorescent type. The light is much nicer quality than the pink tone from the old lamps, and they use less energy too. The new fixtures also lack the extended glass diffuser which means more light on the street, and less on the neighbors windows.
